I'm far from the biggest sports fan in Chicago, but even I know that the Bears are in the playoffs on Sunday. (They are playing the Green Bay Packers, right? Wisconsin, right?)
But football games can be recorded. And there's always ESPN.
And we will only have one chance to see Rohina Malik's "Unveiled" at Beth Emet. Malik is a Chicago-based playwright and actress who performs five different roles in this beautiful portrayal of Muslim women in a post-9/11 world.
I saw the play at Next Theatre in Evanston with Fay Lipshultz on 9/11 last fall. It felt like the right place to be. But consider this: 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Doesn't this feel like a good time to experience this?
We have Howard and Lisa Sachs to thank for bringing the production to Beth Emet. They were also present at last fall's performance and felt the way Fay and I did about the show. But Howard didn't keep that to himself. After the show, he asked Rohina if she would consider bringing it to Beth Emet. And she said yes.
